Meet the Future of Santa Clara Women's Basketball: Tamia Braggs

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball welcomes forward Tamia Braggs from Tacoma, Wash. as one of three members of the signing class of 2016-17. Braggs attended Lincoln High School and was coached by Jamila Jones.

"I chose Santa Clara because everything about the school was what I was looking for in a college," said Braggs. "The coaching staff makes you feel welcomed and encourages you not matter what. The team is full of amazing women who don't make you feel like a stranger when you first meet them. The campus is beautiful, but what stood out the most was the academic support the students receive. I'm so proud to become a Bronco."

"Tamia is one of the most skilled post players I've seen at the high school level in quite awhile," said Santa Clara head coach JR Payne. "She has tremendous footwork and has a great knack for scoring the ball in and around the block. Tamia has an infectious personality and will have great presence on our team, both on and off the court."

Braggs was her team MVP in high school for three straight years from 2012-2015 and a team captain all four years. She was MVP of the Narrows League twice as a sophomore and junior and was named to the all-district team in 2014. As a junior she averaged 17.2 points per game and as a sophomore averaged 15.2.

Her team finished second in league in 2014 and 2015 and finished six in state her sophomore year.

Braggs is a member of ASB, drama club, and her church choir. She enjoys dancing, swimming, and watching movies.
