Women's Basketball Returns Home to Face LMU

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball returns to the court Thursday at 6 p.m. vs. LMU to start the final homestand of the regular season. Last week the Broncos took down San Diego for the first time 11 tries but fell in a tight game at BYU.

Santa Clara is outscoring opponents 65.1-57.4 and outrebounding teams 41.0-33.6. The Broncos shoot 39.6 percent from the field and have hit 92 3-pointers as a team. They are No. 9 in the country with 563 free throws attempted and No. 11 with 384 free throws made.

The Broncos are also third nationally in steals (318) and steals per game (12.7) and eighth with 22.1 turnovers forced per game.

Lori Parkinson leads the team with 11.3 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game. She is dishing out 1.8 apg and has blocked 27 shots while collecting 54 steals.

Marie Bertholdt is tops on the team with 93 free throws made and 121 attempted while scoring 9.3 ppg and grabbing 6.2 rpg. She is second with 49 assists as well.

Savanna Hanson leads Santa Clara with 23 3-pointers made and 2.5 apg. She is scoring 8.7 ppg and averaging 2.3 spg, fourth in the WCC.

Taylor Berry is third in the WCC with 2.4 spg and adds 7.3 ppg and 3.9 rpg.

Santa Clara is 44-23 all-time vs. LMU and 10-9 in Leavey. The first meeting came in 1984-85. Earlier this year the Broncos won a thriller down in Los Angeles.

LMU is being outscored 71.7-69.2 on the season and outrebounded 42.2-40.1. The Lions shoot 38.1 percent from the floor and 31.2 percent from beyond the arc.

Four players are averaging in double figures with Sophie Taylor leading the way with 12.6 ppg. She is second on the team with 8.4 rpg and leads the way with 2.0 spg.

Cheyanne Wallace scores 11.4 ppg and grabs 5.2 rpg while leading the WCC with 2.0 bpg.

Deanna Johnson (10.8) and Leslie Lopez-Wood (10.2) round out the double-digit scorers. Lopez-Wood leads the team with 48 3-pointers made and Johnson is the top free throw shooter on the team with 90 made.

Bree Alford leads LMU with 8.5 rpg and is scoring 7.6 ppg as well.
