Women's Basketball Hosts Saint Mary's on Senior Day in Crucial WCC Showdown

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Heading into the final weekend of the regular season, Santa Clara women's basketball hosts Saint Mary's Thursday at 6 p.m. for senior day. A win for the Broncos gives them the inside track on the No. 2 seed in the upcoming West Coast Conference tournament.

Last week the Broncos blew out LMU 68-41 and Pepperdine 84-50 for their 20th and 21st wins of the season.

It is the most wins since 2001-02 when the team also won 21 games and went to the NCAA tournament.

It is also the most WCC wins since 1992-93 when the Broncos won the WCC regular season title.

The ticket office is also open one hour prior to the start of the game. During games, Chad Cardinal and Jesse Moreno of the ticket operations staff will be located above Section 105 to answer questions.

Game Promotions: Thursday will be Senior Day. The Broncos will honor seniors Brooke Gallaway, Devin Hudson, Taylor Williams and Maddison Allen. Fans should arrive a few minutes early to see the presentation. It will also be a Red Out and fans should wear red.

Santa Clara is outscoring opponents 65.9-56.6 and outrebounding teams 41.2-32.7. The Broncos lead the WCC in scoring defense and are No. 22 in the country in rebound margin. They are 16th in the nation in offensive rebounds per game.

They also are third nationally in teals (355) and steals per game (13.1) while placing seventh in turnovers forced per game (22.3).

The Broncos are No. 6 in the country with 605 free throw attempts and No. 8 with 418 free throws made.

Lori Parkinson leads the team in scoring with 11.4 ppg and is second with 6.5 rpg. She is also fourth in the conference with 1.0 bpg and fifth with 2.3 spg.

Marie Bertholdt, the reigning WCC Player of the Week, is leading the team with 6.6 rpg and is third in scoring with 10.1 ppg. She is also tied for the team lead with 57 total assists.

Savanna Hanson is scoring 8.2 ppg while leading the team with 2.3 apg. She also leads the Broncos with 23 3-pointers made.

Taylor Berry is second on the WCC with 2.5 spg and is adding 7.9 ppg to go with 4.0 rpg.

Santa Clara is 35-34 all-time vs. Saint Mary's and 15-18 in Leavey. The first meeting came in 1978-79. Earlier this year the Broncos beat the Gaels in Moraga.

Saint Mary's is outscoring opponents 74.6-67.6 and outrebounding teams 42.4-32.6. The Gaels are shooting 46.2 percent from the floor and 37.7 percent from beyond the arc.

Lauren Nicholson leads the team in scoring with 16.8 ppg and adds 3.6 rpg. Sydney Raggio is tops on Saint Mary's with 7.1 rpg and is third with 11.7 ppg. Samira McDonald leads the Gaels with 3.5 apg.

Devon Brookshire (12.1) and Stella Beck (10.5) round out the four double-digit scorers for Saint Mary's.
