Women's Basketball Takes On Fresno State in WNIT Friday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Playing in the postseason for the first time in 10 years, Santa Clara women's basketball travels to Fresno State to play in the first round of the WNIT on Friday at 7 p.m.

The last time the Broncos made the postseason was in 2006 when they fell to Oregon State in the first round of the WNIT.

This will be the 12th postseason appearance in team history and the sixth time they have been to the WNIT.

Santa Clara is outscoring opponents 65.9-58.4 and outrebounding teams 40.4-33.4. The Broncos are second in the WCC in scoring defense a 19th nationally in offensive rebounds per game.

They are third in the country in steals (396) and steals per game (12.8) and place fifth in turnovers forced per game (21.8).

The Broncos are also 11th in the country in free throws made with 484 and eighth in attempts with 695.

Lori Parkinson leads Santa Clara in scoring with 11.7 ppg and is second with 6.4 rpg. She is fifth in the conference with 2.3 spg and fourth with 1.0 bpg.

Marie Bertholdt is second on the team with 11.4 ppg and leads the Broncos with 6.6 rpg. She is also tops on the roster with 126 free throws made and 159 attempted.

Savanna Hanson leads Santa Clara with 2.7 apg and 25 3-pointers made. She is scoring 7.8 ppg and is third in the WCC with 2.3 spg.

Taylor Berry is fourth in the conference with 2.3 spg while adding 7.6 ppg and 4.3 rpg.

Santa Clara is 15-23 all-time vs. Fresno State with the first meeting coming in 1977-78. The Broncos fell 69-49 on Dec. 8, 2013 in the last meeting between the two teams.

Fresno State lost 55-54 to Colorado State in the Mountain West Tournament championship game.

The Bulldogs are outscoring opponents 63.0-58.8 on the season and outrebounding teams 37.6-36.8.

They are shooting 40.6 percent from the floor and 30.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Bego Faz Davalos leads the team with 12.4 ppg on a team-best 51.7 percent shooting from the floor. She is also tops on the team with 9.4 rpg and is second nationally with 4.0 bpg. She also adds 2.5 apg.

Shauqunna Collins leads the Bulldogs with 2.7 apg and is scoring 10.1 ppg. She also leads the team with 1.5 spg and is adding 3.2 rpg.

Toni Smith is scoring 10.8 ppg to go with 6.4 rpg while Alex Furr leads Fresno State with 46 3-pointers made and is scoring 8.3 ppg to go with 5.1 rpg.
