KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Santa Clara women's soccer senior Kelcie Hedge and junior Alex Loera have been named to the 2019 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year. This year's winners will be announced in early January at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
The MAC Hermann Trophy Watch Lists are compiled by members of the United Soccer Coaches Men's and Women's NCAA Division I All-America Committees. Fifteen semifinalists will be named for both the men's and women's MAC Hermann Trophy near the end of the college season based on voting by NCAA Division I coaches and from those candidates, three finalists will ultimately be placed on the ballot for the coveted award.
Last year, Hedge was named a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist in addition to being named First Team All-America, First Team All-West Region, the West Coast Conference Player of the Year, and First Team All-WCC.
She helped lead the Broncos to their most wins since 2005 and their most regular season (16) and nonconference (9) wins since 2001. Her seven goals were tied for second on the team while adding two assists and starting all but one game. During conference play, she led the team with six goals, scoring all six in a span of five matches.
Loera was also named First Team All-West Region and First Team All-WCC a season ago. She started all but one game while adding a pair of assists and helping to anchor the Broncos defense.
Santa Clara begins its season August 22 at home against Texas A&M. Season and single-game tickets are on sale now.
