SANTA CLARA, Calif.
– Former Santa Clara women's soccer goalkeeper Melissa Lowder was one of 10 players on the first U.S. Women's Beach Soccer National Team roster that competed in the first women's Concacaf tournament for beach soccer in El Salvador from Aug. 3-6.

Women's beach soccer features four field players and a goalkeeper with three 12-minute periods and unlimited substitutions on the fly.

Additional USWBSNT programming will be evaluated based on available international competitions and competitive opportunities in the future.

The U.S. dropped its opening match 2-1 to Mexico before earning its first victory by defeating El Salvador 9-6. A 7-1 win over the Bahamas capped the tournament for the Americans.

Lowder was a three-year starter at Santa Clara and was an All-WCC honorable mention pick as a sophomore. That year she set a Bronco record with 14 saves in a second round matchup at top-seeded No. 2 Stanford as the Broncos moved on and made it to the national quarterfinals that year.
