Women's Soccer Stays Hot With 4-0 Win Over Arizona

SANTA CLARA, Calif.– For the third match in a row, Santa Clara women's soccer picked up a shutout, this time taking down Arizona 4-0 Friday night at Stevens Stadium.

The Broncos (4-3) offense put up four goals against a Wildcats (4-1) defense that had not allowed a goal on the year and had let opponents put just six shots on frame.

Santa Clara matched that total, putting six of its nine shots on target on an efficient night for the attack. Led by Kelsey Turnbow's second consecutive brace, the Broncos also got goals from Kelcie Hedge and Alex Loera with six collecting an assist.

After a bit of a slow start, Turnbow finally broke through in the 41st minute in what had been a defensive struggle to that point. A throw in from Kaitlyn Parcel found the feet of Turnbow just outside the box and she perfectly lobbed a shot over the keeper and into the net.

Just out of halftime, the Broncos added another goal in the 48th off another throw in. Machaela George took the throw and found Turnbow who put a move on a defender before sending it into the box and to the foot of Hedge who one-timed her shot far post to make it 2-0.

Turnbow struck again in the 65th when a long pass from DB Pridham put her with just the keeper to beat before putting it into an empty net.

For good measure, the team leader in goals, D'Aquila, scored her seventh of her freshman campaign in the 84th off assists from Hedge and Julie Doyle.

Arizona also was efficient on offense, putting six of eight shots on goal but Courtney Ogren stopped them all.
