SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball announced the first member of the 2021 recruiting class, Nick Bacura. The Mira Costa High School product from Manhattan Beach, California is the No. 8 catching prospect in the state according to Prep Baseball Report and 66th overall.

"I chose Santa Clara because I believe it is a place that I can truly develop into both the ballplayer and person I want to be," said Bacura. "The reputation Santa Clara has both in its academics and the value of social justice are things I admire and think I can benefit from during my time there. With such an awesome coaching staff the future of the baseball program looks bright and I'm really looking forward to being a part of it."

The 5-foot-11, right-handed hitting Bacura was named first team California all-region by Perfect Game prior to the 2020 season that was canceled due to COVID-19. In 2019, he earned high honorable mention honors from Perfect Game in its preseason underclassmen team.

"Nick is a very physical player out of Mira Costa High in southern California who also has developed in the PFA Matadors program. He carries every attribute you look for while recruiting a catcher. He is a disciplined leader with a powerful bat," said Broncos head coach Rusty Filter. "We are excited to develop Nick into an everyday catcher for the Bronco Boys."

A strong student, Bacura is a three-time honoree of the Mira Costa Scholar Athlete Award in 2018, 2019 and 2020 as well as making the Principal's honor roll every semester. He also is a member of the California Scholarship Federation and the National Society of High School Scholars.

Our next future Bronco, Thomas Gould, will be announced the week of November 23.
