Baseball Ends Stanford Series With Shutout Victory

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Four pitchers combined on a one-hitter and the offense banged out 13 hits as Santa Clara baseball cruised to a 13-0 victory over Stanford in Sunday's finale of a four-game series.

The Broncos (2-5) scored in all but the eighth inning and nine batters had at least one hit.

Dawson Brigman drove in three runs, his brother Coleman went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a home run, his first of the season, and Jake MacNichols scored three times for Santa Clara.

Brandon Buckley (1-0) struck six and walked only in four innings of work in picking up the win. Holden Bernhardt, Skylar Hales and Nick Sando combined to toss the final five frames. That group walked none and struck out four.

The lone Stanford (3-1) hit was a single in the second inning. Kody Huff beat out a grounder to third baseman Austin Reyes and advanced to second base on a wild pitch.

Huff was one of only two Stanford baserunners to reach second base. None made it to third.

After scoring their first two runs on wild pitches, the Broncos broke it open with five in the third.

Matt Jew forced in a run with a bases-loaded walk, Reyes followed with an RBI sacrifice fly and Dawson Brigman drove in a pair with a single.

Reyes and Jew each two RBIs in the game, and Jason Dicochea went 2-for-5 with two runs scored.

Ryan Bruno (0-1) pitched only the first inning for Stanford but suffered the loss. He gave up one run but walked three.

Santa Clara did most of its damage off Drew Dowd, who replaced Bruno and surrendered four hits and six runs (all earned) in just 1 2/3 innings of action.

The Cardinal, which won the first three games of the series, walked nine Santa Clara batters in the game.
