Baseball Faces Stanford in a Four-Game Series
 
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara baseball faces Stanford in a four-game alternating site series starting on Thursday.  The Broncos and Cardinal will play at Sunken Diamond on Thursday and Saturday at 2:05 p.m. each day and at Stephen Schott Stadium on Friday (6 p.m.) and Sunday (Noon).  Friday's game will be the home opener for SCU.  
 
Santa Clara is coming off a season opening series against No. 8 UC Santa Barbara winning the opener 8-4 before dropping the next two games, 9-6 and 5-4.  In the series, Mike Bowes homered in each game and was named West Coast Conference Player of the Week.  
 
While the Broncos have one series under their belt, Stanford will be opening their 2021 campaign this week. 
 
Due to current guidelines in Santa Clara County, spectators will not be permitted inside Stephen Schott Stadium. In addition, only essential personnel is allowed on campus
 
SANTA CLARA NOTES
• Santa Clara has won three games against ranked opponents in the last two seasons.  Between the COVID shortened 2020 season and the three games this season, Santa Clara has an overall record of 13-7 with wins against No. 25 Stanford (3-2), No. 5 Georgia (8-4) and No. 8 UCSB (8-4) to their credit.      
Jake MacNichols has belted 37 career home runs to sit second all-time on the Broncos career record, just one short of tying Kevin Dunton's (1982-85) school record of 38. 
• Sophomore centerfielder Coleman Brigman has batted at leadoff since the second game of the 2020 season and has safely reached base in his last 18 games.  
• Right-handed pitcher Freddie Erlandson has thrown 19.1 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to the start of last season.
Santa Clara won last year's matchup against Stanford, 3-2.

ABOUT STANFORD

Stanford opens the 2021 season this weekend against the Broncos.  The Cardinal finished last spring with a record of 5-11 before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dave Esquer is in his fourth season at the helm and has a 96-37 record at Stanford   and owns a 621-504-2 record as a Division I head coach (18 seasons at California).

The Cardinal was picked to finish fifth in the conference according to the Pac-12 Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll.  Last season, Stanford batted .207 and posted a 3.50 team ERA.
