SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball announced the second member of the 2021 recruiting class, Thomas Gould.  The infielder from Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, Calif. was named second team All-West Catholic Athletic League as a sophomore in 2019.

"I chose Santa Clara University because Coach Filter and his experienced coaching staff have built a winning program and are taking SCU baseball to the next level. Ever since I walked onto the campus, I've really connected with the coaches and I am excited to begin working with them," said Gould who will join fellow Padres alum, assistant coach Jon Karcich and director of operations Sean McMillan.

"In addition to the staff, Santa Clara has excellent facilities, including the new state of the art Athletic Excellence Center, allowing athletes to succeed on and off the field.  Academically, SCU's outstanding Leavey School of Business, strong connections to leading local businesses, and impressive campus made it an easy decision."

In 2019, Gould hit .330 to finish in the top 15 in the competitive WCAL while posting an .886 OPS, good for second best on the team.  His junior campaign last spring was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Thomas comes out of two great programs in Serra High and GamePrep Baseball Academy.  He is an extremely diligent worker who continues to grow in his baseball abilities," said Broncos head coach Rusty Filter.  "We project him to play in the infield and provide a powerful right-handed bat for the Bronco Boys. When you play for two historically elite programs in Serra and Game Prep, we know that we are getting a well-rounded athlete in Thomas."

A member of the National Honor Society, Gould made the Principal's honor roll list as a freshman, sophomore and junior.
