Baseball Set to Host Sacramento State in Four-Game Series
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara baseball is set to host Sacramento State for a four-game series starting on Thursday inside Stephen Schott Stadium.  The two teams will play each day through Sunday with 6 p.m. starts in the first three games and a 1 p.m. start in the series finale.  
 
Last week, the Broncos played a four-game alternating site series against Stanford dropping the first three games before closing out with a combined one-hit shutout in a 13-0 win.  
 
Due to current guidelines in Santa Clara County, spectators will not be permitted inside Stephen Schott Stadium. In addition, only essential personnel is allowed on campus
 
SANTA CLARA NOTES
• Santa Clara has won three games against ranked opponents in the last two seasons.  Between the COVID shortened 2020 season and the seven games this season, Santa Clara has an overall record of 14-10 with wins against No. 25 Stanford (3-2), No. 5 Georgia (8-4) and No. 8 UCSB (8-4) to their credit.      
Jake MacNichols smacked his first home run of the season in the series opener against Stanford (Feb. 25) to tie him atop the all-time school career record home run list alongside Kevin Dunton (1982-85) with 38. The home run earned him a spot on West Coast Conference's Top Play Tuesday.  
• Sophomore centerfielder Coleman Brigman has batted at leadoff in all but two games since the start of the 2020 season and has safely reached base in 21 of the last 22 games.  Through seven games this season, he has a .485 on-base percentage.   
• Right-handed pitcher Freddie Erlandson's 20.2 scoreless inning streak was snapped in the Stanford series when he gave up a home run.    
• Last season, the Broncos and the Hornets split the four-game series.
• This is the second of three-straight four-game series the Broncos will play.  SCU will play at UC San Diego next weekend.

ABOUT SACRAMENTO STATE

Sacramento State enters the series riding on a four-game winning streak.  The Hornets beat WCC foe Pacific 8-5 on Monday and swept Texas State over the weekend.

Entering the season, Sacramento State was picked to finish in a three-way tie for first at the top of the Western Athletic Conference along with UT Rio Grande Valley and Grand Canyon.  Right-handed pitcher Scott Randall was named the WAC's Preseason Pitcher of the Year.

Thus far in 2021, the Hornets are 5-2 on the season and Randall has a 1-0 record with a 2.70 ERA over 10.0 innings, striking out nine and walking just one.

As a team, the Hornets boasts a 2.95 ERA.

Offensively, they are hitting .218 with Aaron Zeidman leading the way with a .462 batting average going 6-for-13.  Martin Vincelle-Simard tops the team with three round trippers while Dawson Bacho has driven in a team-high eight runs despite hitting just .200.

Defensively, the Hornets have committed five errors on the season and has a .980 fielding percentage.
