Baseball Drops Home Finale

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Jordan Yovetich had five RBIs and Jesse Barron yielded just one run in four-plus innings of relief to help propel San Francisco to a 10-6 victory over Santa Clara baseball on Saturday.

The Dons (25-27), who banged out 12 hits, scored five in the second inning and added three more in the fifth after the Broncos pulled within one run in the second matchup of the three-game nonconference series.

Yovetich, who went 4-for-4, had a three-run homer, his ninth of the season, in the second frame off Santa Clara starter Jared Feikes (1-3) who took the loss.

Jason Dicochea, John Hanley and Matt Jew each had run-scoring singles for the Broncos (17-33) in a four-run third inning.

In the top of the fifth, San Francisco's Harris Williams belted a two-run homer, his fifth of the year, in a three-run outburst off reliever Skylar Hales that increased the lead to 9-5.

The Broncos, who had 11 hits in their final home game of the season, had runners on first and second with no outs in the seventh but Barron (5-2) worked out of the jam. The right-hander went 4 1/3 innings, yielding five hits and one run in earning the win.

Dicochea, who was 2-for-4, had an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth but reliever Pham was able to close out the game.

Feikes went three innings, surrendering seven hits and six runs, all earned.

Hanley went 3-for-4 and Michael O'Hara scored twice for the Broncos.

The Dons entered the game leading the West Coast Conference in stolen bases with 84 (out of 101 attempts) but Bronco catcher Eamonn Lance threw out four of eight stolen base attempts.

The final game of the series will be played back at Benedetti Diamong on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the season finale for both schools.  With the two schools having faced each other earlier in the season as part of the WCC schedule, this weekend's three game series is counted as nonconference games that will not affect the league standings.

Except for family members of Santa Clara student-athletes, fans will not be permitted in Stephen Schott Stadium. The university will continue to evaluate policies for access to events. While the state of California announced guidance for outdoor seated venues on April 1, the university reserves the right to be more cautious than public health guidance.
