SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball announced the ninth member of its incoming 2021 recruiting class, Blake Hammond, who captains both the baseball and basketball teams at Holy Family High School in Broomfield, Colorado.
"I chose Santa Clara because of the great opportunities it will provide. The baseball program has a bright future and I really believe I can develop with the support of the high-level coaches at SCU," said Hammond. "I was also very intrigued by the prestigious business school and location, being in Silicon Valley. The sunny, chill campus seems like it will be a perfect home for me for the next four years."
The right-handed pitcher from Lafayette, Colorado, was selected to the 2020 Perfect Game WWBA All-Tournament team where he posted a 1.70 ERA over 59 innings pitching for Slammers Baseball.
On the hardwood, Hammond averaged 8.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game during the 2018-19 season to help lead the Tigers to a Final Four appearance in the Class 4A tournament.
"Blake has grown into an elite body frame standing at 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds. We project him to command the strike zone both with his low 90's fastball and a power curveball," said Broncos head coach Rusty Filter. "Coming from two great programs in Holy Family High and Slammers Baseball, we are really excited to get Blake on campus to help his continued development."
Our next future Bronco, Robert Hipwell, will be announced the week of January 18.
