Baseball Loses to No. 21 Oregon State on Wednesday

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Kyler McMahan drove in five runs and four pitchers combined for a three-hit shutout in No. 21 Oregon State's 9-0 win over Santa Clara baseball on Wednesday night.

The Beavers (14-5) scored eight of its runs between the third and fifth innings to split the two-game series after Santa Clara (7-13) took the series opener 10-9 on Tuesday.

Holden Bernhardt started on the mound for the Broncos tossing two scoreless innings before giving way to Jared Feikes to start the third.  Feikes hit Matthew Gretler and gave up a single to Cole Hamilton before McMahan drove both home on a double down the left field line to get the Beavers on the board, 2-0.

Oregon State pushed the lead to 5-0 on McMahan's three-run home run in the fourth off Feikes (0-2) who took the loss.

Meanwhile the Broncos were held hitless through the first six innings before Coleman Brigman broke through with a single in the sixth off the third Beaver pitcher of the game, Brock Townsend.  Jack Washburn (3-0) who started on the bump fanning seven batters over three innings was credited with the win.  Ian Lawson, Towsend and Nathan Burns each threw two innings.  

After collecting 12 hits in the previous game, the Broncos were held to three hits including two from Brigman who went 2-for-4.  

McMahan was one of four Beavers who had two hits.  Logan went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Gretler scored three runs.   

NOTES
• Santa Clara leads the series 15-5-1 dating back to 1962.

The Broncos play a three-game conference series at Portland beginning Friday.
