SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball graduate student Mike Bowes was named West Coast Conference Player of the Week after hitting a home run in three consecutive games against nationally ranked UC Santa Barbara over the weekend.
Along with his three home runs, Bowes went 6-for-14 in the season opening series, drove in seven runs and posted a .429/.429/1.071 slashline against the UCSB pitching staff that tied for the country's best ERA at 1.84 last season after they allowed only one home run over 15 games.
Bowes collected three hits, scored three runs and hit a three-run homer in the 8-4 series opening win on Friday. That was followed by a two hit effort including a solo shot on Saturday. In Sunday's series finale, Bowes was moved up the lineup to the cleanup spot and connected on another three-run shot.
