MADRID, Spain - Santa Clara men's basketball had a lot to smile about in their first of three games on their 2022 foreign tour. After a shaky first half that saw the Broncos clinging to three-point advantage at halftime, the team found their stride in the third and fourth periods to run away with a 77-63 victory over Baloncesto Estudiantes.
The Broncos used a 10-man rotation with all five newcomers getting a chance to see the court. Illinois sophomore transfer Brandin Podziemski led the scoring with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including a 3-for-5 mark from downtown. He added five rebounds and a pair of steals in the winning effort. Big men Camaron Tongue and Christoph Tilly reached 10 points each while graduate transfer Carlos Marshall Jr. flirted with a double-double of nine points and eight rebounds. Brenton Knapper led the way with six assists to go with nine points and Jacob Holt pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to go with his six points. Freshmen Jacob Ensminger and Kosy Akametu each finished with seven points, with the latter also coming away with six rebounds.
