SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Fresh off a thrilling 78-75 victory, Santa Clara men's basketball is right back in action. The Broncos will host UC Irvine (7-3) for a 7 p.m. tip on Thursday inside the Leavey Center. The game will be streamed live on the WCC Network.

NOTES

  • The Broncos are playing in their 5th of nine-straight home games. SCU is 20-5 in home games dating back to the start of the 2021-22 season and are 6-1 on the year.

  • SCU erased a 12-point deficit to take down Portland State 78-75 in their last outing. Carlos Stewart scored a career-high 24 pts and hit the go-ahead jumper with just over 40 seconds to play. 

  • SCU and UC Irvine rank 19th and 20th nationally, respectively, in rebounds per game.

  • Brandin Podziemski has won WCC Player of the Week honors twice in the first five weeks of the year. He's the first Bronco since Jared Brownridge in 2016-17 with multiple WCC POTW honors. 

  • Podziemski ranks second in the WCC in both scoring (19.2) and rebounding (9.0). He ranks sixth nationally in points (230) and steals (29), and is 10th in field goals made (78) and rebounds (108).

  • Carlos Stewart is averaging 20 ppg over the last five games. 

  • Stewart ranks third in the WCC in free throw shooting (85.4).

  • Keshawn Justice has scored 11 or more in seven of the last eight games.

  • Santa Clara ranks 19th nationally in rebounds per game (41.2) and 12th in defensive rpg (29.6).

  • Podziemski leads the WCC and is 12th nationally with five double-doubles. 

  • Jaden Bediako leads the WCC with 16 blocked shots while Parker Braun ranks third with 14. The Broncos are 3rd as a team with 4.2 per game. 

  • Herb Sendek has 519 victories, good for 66th all-time in NCAA D1 history.

  • UC Irvine enters Thursday's contest at 7-3 and boasts one of the nation's top rebounding and 3-point shooting units. The Anteaters rank 21st nationally with 41.1 boards per game, including a plus 10.2 margin, and have the nation's seventh-best 3-point shooting percentage at 41.2. They are averaging 80.1 ppg on 47.4 percent shooting while limiting opponents to just 63.5 ppg. DJ Davis leads the offensive charge with 16.1 ppg and is the Big West leader in 3-point shooting with 30 total triples on 45.5 percent shooting.
