Podziemski Gem Powers Broncos To Second-Straight Victory

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Another game. Another 30-point performance by newcomer Brandin Podziemski. This time it was to the tune of a career-best 34 points as he led the offensive charge for Santa Clara men's basketball in a 78-62 victory over Georgia Southern.

Podziemski combined with fellow sophomore Carlos Stewart for 48 of the team's 78 points. He also pulled down 11 rebounds for his first-career double-double and added three assists and two steals. The transfer from Illinois did the majority of his damage in the first half, connecting on his first four 3-point attempts and finishing the half 5-of-6 from downtown and 25 points. He finished the night 10-of-16 from the floor and 6-of-8 from 3-point range, and was also a perfect 8-for-8 at the charity stripe.

Stewart had his second-straight game of double-figure scoring, finishing with 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting with two 3-pointers to go with four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Jaden Bediako and Carlos Marshall, Jr. each tacked on eight points in the winning effort.

it was a dominating effort from start to finish for the Broncos (2-0), jumping out to a nine-point lead at the game's first media timeout and putting their foot on the accelerator to push that lead to as much as 23 with just under four minutes remaining in the half. Taking a 42-25 lead into the half, Santa Clara was able to coast in the final 20 minutes of action, maintaining their double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest.

The Broncos finished the night with a 43.6 percent shooting clip (24-of-55) while holding Georgia Southern to 39.7 percent (25-of-63). The defense once again locked down around the perimeter, allowing just six treys on 27 attempts (22.2 percent). The Broncos also once again won the battle of the boards, 44-29, and dished out 16 assists to the Eagles' eight.

Kaden Archie and Jalen Finch led the way offensively for Georgia Southern, finishing with 19 and 14 points, respectively.

Now 2-0, the Broncos will look to keep the momentum rolling on Monday, Nov. 14, in the team's lone true road game of the nonconference portion of the schedule - a 6 p.m. showdown against Utah State in Logan, Utah.
