Podziemski Earns Second WCC Player of the Week Honor

SAN MATEO, Calif. - After averaging 23 points on 52.9 percent shooting in two games, Santa Clara's sophomore sensation Brandin Podziesmki has been tabbed as the West Coast Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season. He is the first Bronco to win the award multiple times in one year since Jared Brownridge won twice in the 2016-17 season.

Podziemski helped lead the Broncos to two victories on the week to stretch their win streak to four-straight and improve to 7-2 overall on the year. The sharpshooter shot 41.2 percent from beyond the arc and averaged 8.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. Podziemski opened the week by scoring a team-high-tying 19 points with 10 rebounds in the neutral court battle vs. Wyoming in Salt Lake City. The double-double was his WCC-leading fourth of the year. He then followed up by pacing the Broncos once again with a game-high 27 points with five triples in SCU's home victory over Sacramento State.

"Brandin was outstanding this week on both ends of the court," head coach Herb Sendek said. "He is a big part of our success and has done a really great job in these first few weeks."

Overall, Podziemski is stacking up among the top players in all of NCAA D1 early on in the 2022-23 campaign. He is averaging just shy of a double-double with 20.6 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, ranking first and second, respectively, in the WCC. His 185 total points leads the conference and ranks 10th nationally.

Podziemski and the Broncos will look to keep the momentum rolling on Wednesday as they host New Mexico State for a 7:00 p.m. PT tip inside the Leavey Center.
