Broncos Earn NIT Selection, Will Host Sam Houston State On Wednesday

NIT Bracket

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - For the second-consecutive season, Santa Clara men's basketball is playing in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). The Broncos were selected to host the opening round and will welcome No. 2 seed Sam Houston State to the Leavey Center for a 6 p.m. PT tip on Wednesday, March 15.

Santa Clara is 23-9 overall on the season and finished third in the West Coast Conference for the second-straight year with a 12-5 record. The Broncos had three players earn All-WCC honors with Brandin Podziemski and Carlos Stewart being named to the first team and Keshawn Justice earning a second team nod. Podziemski was also named the WCC Co-Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.

"We are incredibly excited to get an opportunity to continue our season in the NIT for the second-straight year," head coach Herb Sendek said. "Our players and staff have worked tremendously hard all season long, and I'm so pleased that their hard work has paid off with yet another postseason appearance. We are very eager to take on a very talented Sam Houston State team and look forward to a great match up."

This will be the sixth appearance in the NIT for Santa Clara in program history, and their second in as many seasons. The Broncos made four appearances in the 1980s - 1984, 1985, 1988 and 1989 - before returning to the tournament last year. This is also the first time since 1995 and 96 that SCU has made back-to-back postseason appearances (NCAA Tournament or NIT).

Overall, Santa Clara has been to 16 postseason tournaments between the NCAA Tournament and NIT.
