Podziemski Named WCC Player of the Week For Third Time

SAN MATEO, Calif. - For the third time this season, Santa Clara men's basketball sophomore guard Brandin Podziemski is the Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the West Coast Conference.

With the win, Podziemski is the first Bronco since John Bryant in 2008-09 to earn WCC Player of the Week honors three times in a single season.

The Illinois transfer had a big week to help carry the Broncos to two big road victories over BYU and Portland. He averaged 21 points, 13.5 rebounds and four assists for the two-game swing while shooting 55.6 percent from the field and 53.8 percent from beyond the arc on 7-of-13 shooting.

Podziemski tallied a double-double in each outing, his ninth and 10th, respectively on the season. He began by scoring 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting with three triples to go with 12 rebounds, three assists and a steal to help carry the Broncos to their first road victory over BYU since Dec. 2, 1972.

The left-handed sharpshooter followed by tallying his next double-double in less than 20 minutes of action - pulling down 10 rebounds and scoring 16 points in the first half against Portland. He finished the game with 16 points, 15 rebounds (second-highest total of the season) and five assists despite playing just 31 minutes.

The Broncos have two regular-season games remaining, beginning with their final home game of 2022-23 on Thursday against Pepperdine.
