HOUSTON, Texas - The postseason accolades ontinue to pour in for Brandin Podziemski. His latest addition to the list of accomplishments is a spot on the 2023 Lou Henson Award All-America Team. It's the second-straight season that a Bronco has earned a spot on the prestigious team, with Jalen Williams doing so in 2021-22.
A native of Greenfield, Wisc., Podziemski had a record-setting season and was named WCC Co-Player of the Year with Gonzaga's Drew Timme to become the program's ninth athlete to win player of the year honors, and the first since 2008-09 (John Bryant). He was also named the league's Newcomer of the Year, was a first team All-WCC pick and earned All-District honors from both the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA). Podziemski won WCC Player of the Week honors a school-record four times.
Podziemski put up eye-popping numbers throughout the season, finishing with four 30-point games, 15 games with 20 or more points, and 29 double-figure scoring efforts. The 6-foot-5 guard led the WCC with 13 double-doubles and averaged just shy of 20 points per game at 19.9. He was also the WCC's top rebounder at 8.8 boards per game while dishing out a team-best 3.7 assists. He is one of just three players in NCAA Division I to average 19/8/3 this season.
Players on teams from the following conferences are eligible for the award: America East, ASUN, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, MEAC, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, SWAC, Summit, Sun Belt, WAC, West Coast.
Podziemski was one of three WCC players to earn a spot on the 30-man roster joining Saint Mary's Logan Johnson and LMU's Cam Shelton. Louisiana's Jordan Brown won the top honor of Lou Henson Player of the Year.
