Broncos Host BYU In Nationally-Televised Game On Thursday Night

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Looking to keep the momentum rolling off of their highest scoring total of the season vs. Pacific, Santa Clara men's basketball gears up to take on BYU on Thursday night inside the Leavey Center. The game tips off at 8:00 p.m. PT and will be national television broadcast on CBS Sports Network.

NOTES

  • The Broncos are returning to the comfort of home and looking for their second-straight victory over BYU inside the Leavey Center.

  • Thursday's game features the top two rebounding teams in the WCC. SCU is first at 40.3 RPG and BYU is right behind at 39.7.

  • SCU is coming off thier highest point total of the season with a 92-81 victory at Pacific. Five Broncos scored in double figures led by Keshawn Justice's 26 and Carlos Stewart's 21 points.

  • Brandin Podziemski leads the team in PPG (18.7), RPG (8.5) and APG (3.5). He ranks second in the WCC in RPG and third in PPG.

  • Podziemski ranks 20th nationally with 356 points and 44th with 161 rebounds. He has seven double-doubles, which ranks second in the league and 28th nationally.

  • Keshawn Justice ranks 17th in school history in career scoring (1,444) and needs just two more points to move up to 16th.

  • Justice ranks third nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.53). 

  • Justice leads the WCC and is 16th nationally with 56 3-pointers made and ranks 10th nationally with 157 attempts. 

  • Carlos Stewart ranks 11th in the WCC in ppg (14.9) and second in FT percentage (84.9).

  • Santa Clara ranks 10th nationally in rebounds per game (40.3).

  • The Broncos have had two players score 20 or more on four occasions. 

  • The Broncos lead the WCC with 14.8 fouls per game.

  • Podziemski won WCC Player of the Week honors twice in the first five weeks of the year.  He's the first Bronco since Jared Brownridge in 2016-17 with multiple WCC POTW honors. 

  • Parker Braun is coming off back-to-back double-doubles against Gonzaga and at Pacific.
  • Jaden Bediako is fourth in the  WCC with 22 blocks while Parker Braun is sixth with 20. The Broncos are 3rd as a team with 3.7 per game. 

  • Herb Sendek has 525 victories, tied for 63rd most all-time in D1 history.

  • With a 12-3 mark, SCU tied for their 2nd most non-conference wins in program history.

  • BYU checks into Thursday's game at 4-2 in the league and currently third in the standings. The Cougars are 14-7 overall and have won 9 of their last 11 games. Like the Broncos, BYU is among the top rebounding teams in the conference, checking in at 17th overall, 3rd in the WCC, in rebounding margin (+7.3) and second in the WCC with with 39.67 rebounds per game. Fousseyni Traore leads the team in both scoring (12.8) and rebounding (8.0). 

  • BYU holds the lead in the all-time series over Santa Clara, 32-7, however it was the Broncos that proved victorious in the last meeting. Last season produced one of the most memorable games in recent history for the Broncos as Jalen Williams scored just before the buzzer to give SCU a 77-76 win, their first over BYU since 2017.

Thursday's game will be carried by CBS Sports Network. Carter Blackburn (play-by-play) and Pete Gillen (analyst) will have the call live from the Leavey Center.
