Battle of the Broncos This Thursday In The Leavey Center

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - It'll be Broncos vs. Broncos this Thursday afternoon in a West Coast Conference-Mountain West Conference showdown between Santa Clara and Boise State. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. PT inside the Leavey Center. The game will be streamed live on the WCC Network.

NOTES

  • The Broncos are playing in their 7th of nine-straight home games. SCU is 22-5 in home games dating back to the start of the 2021-22 season and are 8-1 on the year.

  • With an 11-3 mark, SCU has tied for their third-most nonconference wins in program history.

  • SCU picked up thier third-straight win in their last outing, holding of Cal for a 71-62 victory. Brandin Podziemski scored 20 pts while Parker Braun had a season-high 17 pts. 

  • Keshawn Justice is just 21 points shy of moving into the top-20 on the school's career scoring list. 

  • Justice is fifth nationally in 3PT attempts (112) and 18th in 3PT made (38).

  • The Broncos have had two players score 20 or more on three occassions. 

  • Brandin Podziemski has won WCC Player of the Week honors twice in the first five weeks of the year. He's the first Bronco since Jared Brownridge in 2016-17 with multiple WCC POTW honors. 

  • Podziemski ranks second in the WCC in rebounding (8.6) and fourth in PPG (18.4). He ranks 10th nationally in points (257), fourth in steals (34), ninth in FG attempts (194) and 24th in rebounds (120).

  • Carlos Stewart ranks third in the WCC in free throw shooting (86.0).

  • Justice is fourth nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.91).

  • Justice has scored 11 or more in nine of the last 10 games.

  • Santa Clara ranks 37th nationally in rebounds per game (39.9) and 27th in defensive rpg (28.6) 

  • Podziemski is second in the WCC and is 18th nationally with five double-doubles. 

  • Jaden Bediako is tied for 2nd in the WCC with 16 blocked shots. The Broncos are 3rd as a team with 3.9 per game. 

  • Herb Sendek has 521 victories, good for 66th all-time in NCAA D1 history.

  • The equine counterparts from Boise State are 10-2 on the season and riding all the momentum with a nine-game winning streak. Led by 13th-year head coach Leon Rice, the Broncos feature an elite defense that ranks in the top 10 nationally in 3-pt percentage defense (6th), scoring defense (9th) and field goal percentage defense (10th), and allow just 57.1 points per game. They have also fared well on the boards with 38.5 rpg, good for 2nd in the Mountain West, including 29.2 off the defensive glass. Boise State's top player is do-it-all guard Marcus Shaver, Jr., who leads the team in both ppg (14.8) and rpg (7.4). 

  • The Broncos have squared off just five times throughout the years with the red and white version winning the first four. Boise State got the better of SCU last season with a 72-60 win in Boise.
