Women's Basketball Picks Up Road Win at San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO – Santa Clara women's basketball picked up an 80-72 road win at San Francisco despite being down its top scorer as three guards assumed bigger roles to fill in for the injured Tia Hay.

Addi Walters led the Broncos (8-6, 2-1 WCC) with a season high-tying 19 points while connecting on three 3-pointers and Emily Wolph scored a season high 14 with four triples and five assists in a season high 19 minutes. Lexie Pritchard, making her first start of the season in place of Hay, scored 11 on 5-for-8 shooting.

The 3-pointer was a major factor for Santa Clara as the Broncos knocked down a season high 11 from distance while allowing just five to the Dons (7-8, 0-3 WCC).

Ashlyn Herlihy also connected twice from downtown and made her presence felt inside, just missing a double-double with nine points and a team high 12 boards as Santa Clara won the battle of the boards 46-37.

The Dons scored the first six out of the halftime break to get within two and drew even midway through the third quarter but Walters and Wolph responded with 3-pointers to get the Broncos back up 51-45 at the 4:39 mark. The lead never dipped below four points again.

San Francisco bunched four of its five triples, including back-to-back by Marija Galic, during a 15-0 run that tied the game after a fast start for Santa Clara. Abby Rathbun capped the run with the team's fifth and final 3-pointer at 5:49 in the second quarter to make it 26-all.

Lucie Hoskova scored a game high 20 on 9 of 17 shooting and was helped out by a double-double (14 points/10 rebounds) from Leilah Vigil. Mikayla Williams added 11 with Julia Nielacna scoring nine.

After San Francisco briefly took the lead during its first of two big runs on the day, the Broncos came right back with a 10-0 run to end the half that came during a stretch of 6-for-6 shooting from the field. Wolph and Walters both connected from deep with Walter's giving her team a 40-32 lead that would last until the break.
