Five Women's Basketball Players Honored for Academic Work

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball had five players honored by the West Coast Conference for their work in the classroom Wednesday. Redshirt junior forward Ashlyn Herlihy and redshirt senior Lauren Yearwood were named to the WCC All-Academic with redshirt senior Emily Wolph, senior Tia Hay, and sophomore Lindsey VanAllen on the honorable mention list.

Herlihy is working on her MBA and has a 3.61 GPA. She is second on the Broncos in scoring with 10.2 points per game and leads with 7.0 rebounds per game.

Yearwood is majoring in biology and neuroscience and minoring in chemistry and has a 3.86 GPA. She is averaging 5.8 ppg and 5.0 rpg with a team high 36 blocks. This is the second year in a row she has been all-academic.

Wolph is working on a master's degree in counseling and has a 3.59 GPA. She also has a master's in educational leadership and a bachelor's degree in sociology. Wolph averages 7.3 ppg and recently became the 25th player in program history to score 1,000 points. Last season she was honorable mention.

Hay is a sociology major with a 3.36 GPA. She leads the team in scoring (12.8 ppg), assists (3.4 pg), and steals (1.3 pg).

VanAllen has a 3.40 GPA as a business major. She has appeared in every game this season and made 24 starts while averaging 8.0 ppg and 4.0 rpg.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average while also being a significant contributor to her team.
