Women's Basketball Gets Pacific Friday in WCC Tournament

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After a first round win, No. 8 seed Santa Clara women's basketball faces No. 5 seed Pacific Friday at noon in the second round of the WCC Tournament.

The Broncos took down San Francisco 72-65 in overtime Thursday to advance.

SERIES HISTORY
Santa Clara is 30-24 all-time against Pacific with the first meeting coming in 1974-75. The Broncos and Tigers split the season series, each winning at home.

THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara (12-18, 5-13 WCC) averages 69.1 points per game on 41.2-percent shooting from the field and 33.1-percent from downtown while allowing 68.8 ppg.

Tia Hay averages a team high 12.4 ppg, 3.7 assists per game, and 1.3 steals per game. Ashlyn Herlihy is second in scoring with 10.2 ppg and grabs a team best 6.9 rebounds per game. Merle Wiehl has knocked down 43 3-pointers, tops on the team, while averaging 9.1 ppg and 4.3 rpg.

THE TIGERS 
Pacific (16-13, 9-9 WCC) is scoring 68.7 ppg while allowing 65.3. The Tigers shoot 40.9-percent from the field and 30.8-percent from downtown.

Valerie Higgins leads the team in scoring (16.5 ppg), rebounds (9.1 pg), steals (98), assists (98), and blocks (22). Brooklyn McDavid scores 14.8 ppg and leads the team in shooting with a 50.8-percent mark from the floor. Kaylin Randhawa scores 8.0 ppg and Sofie Tryggedsson scores 7.2 with a team high 48 3-pointers made.
