SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball travels to the Pacific Northwest to take on Portland Thursday at 7 p.m.
The Broncos picked up a win over LMU Thursday but fell to Pepperdine Saturday.
Santa Clara is 46-31 all-time against Portland with the first meeting coming in 1986-87. The Pilots hit a buzzer beater to win in Leavey Center earlier this season.
Santa Clara (9-1314 3-9 WCC) is scoring 69.6 points per game on 41.7-percent shooting from the field and 33.1-percent from beyond the arc. The Broncos are allowing opponents 68.6 ppg.
Tia Hay is scoring a team best 12.9 ppg and also leads with 3.6 assists per game and 21 steals. Ashlyn Herlihy's 7.5 rebounds per game are tops on the team and she is second in scoring with 10.5 ppg. Merle Wiehl has knocked down a team high 29 3-pointers and is scoring 8.3 ppg with 4.1 rpg.
Portland (14-10, 7-6 WCC) is scoring 69.4 ppg while allowing 62.9. The Pilots shoot 44.6-percent from the field and 31.9-percent from downtown while allowing marks of 41.3 and 26.5.
Alex Fowler leads the team with1 7.6 ppg and a 53.3-percent mark from the field. She also grabs a team high 7.5 rpg. Haylee Andrews dishes out a team leading 5.8 apg while scoring 15.9 ppg. Kate Anderson scores 14.8 ppg and Maddie Muhlheim leads the team with 46 3-pointers made while scoring 7.9 ppg.
