Baseball Upsets No. 2 Stanford on the Road

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball went on the road and came away with a 10-5 win at No. 2 Stanford on Tuesday night.

The Broncos (6-4) got off to a quick start with three runs in the second and never looked back. After one in the fourth, the offense pushed across four in the fifth and two more in the sixth to get out in front 10-0. A rocky seventh saw the Cardinal (9-3) score five times but the bullpen would lock it down from there.

Everything started with starter and winning pitcher Jared Feikes. Feikes (1-0) tossed 4 no-hit innings with three strikeouts against an offense that came into the game averaging over 10 runs per game. Henry Stewart got the final out in the stressful seventh to keep the lead intact and Friday starter Cole Kitchen pitched a scoreless eighth. Skylar Hales closed things out by striking out the side in the ninth.

It was a big of an odd game as the Broncos had just six hits but thanks to 12 walks were able to crack double-figures in runs. Ben Steck had three RBIs, including two bases loaded walks, out of the nine hole and Coleman Brigman also knocked in a pair of runs. Dawson Brigman scored three times thanks to a hit and three walks.

Stanford starter Trevor Moore (0-1) lasted 1-plus inning and took the loss. He gave up a run with one walk and no hits. Santa Clara got to Max Meier for four runs and Ryan Bruno for three in the middle innings.

On offense, the Cardinal managed just three hits but took advantage of four errors to score their runs. Eddie Park, Carter Graham, and Charlie Saum each had an RBI with no one collecting more than one hit or an extra base hit.

It was the Broncos first win over Stanford since the finale of a four-game series in 2021. Santa Clara's last midweek win over the Cardinal came in 2016 and the last win in Palo Alto came in 2015.
