Baseball Concludes Road Trip With Win at UC Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball finished its trip to Southern California with a 7-4 win over UC Santa Barbara on Monday.

The Broncos (14-10) scored most of their runs late, putting up one in the seventh and two in each of the eighth and ninth innings. The Gauchos (18-7) got back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the ninth to make things a little more interesting but the next three batters went down in order.

Santa Clara's offense pounded out 15 hits, led by three each from Jordan Lewis, Robert Hipwell, and Efrain Manzo. Manzo had a home run and a double to go with three RBIs while Hipwell had two doubles with a run scored and an RBI. Lewis scored twice and knocked in a run. Thomas Ferroggiaro and Johnny Luetzow both had two-hit games as well.

Cade Pilchard (2-0) tossed the final 3 innings out of the bullpen to get the win. He allowed two runs on two hits with a walk and two punchouts. Jared Feikes was solid in the start, going 6 innings. He gave up two runs on seven hits with a walk and six strikeouts.

John Newman, Jr. led the UCSB offense with three hits, including a pair of home runs to go along with a double. Corey Nunez also had two hits and scored a run.

Carter Benbrook (1-3) took the loss. In 1 inning of relief, he gave up two runs on four hits with two strikeouts. The Gauchos used five pitchers with each giving up at least one run.
