Baseball's Winning Streak Ends in Shootout With No. 4 Stanford

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – A game full of offense saw Santa Clara baseball's nine-game winning streak come to an end in a 20-17 defeat at the hands of No. 4 Stanford Tuesday night in the final midweek game at Schott Stadium this year.

The score was tied at 8-all after six innings but the Cardinal (32-13) put up eight in the seventh to take the lead for good. The Broncos (27-16) battled back with three in the bottom of the inning and one more in the eighth to make it interesting before Stanford scored four in the ninth. The runs proved important as Santa Clara scored five of its own in the bottom of the inning and brought the winning run to the plate with the bases loaded but it ended there.

Ten Cardinal threw with Drew Dowd (7-2) ending up with the win in a scoreless inning of relief. Starter Nicolas Lopez and reliever Toran O'Harran both pitched in the first without recording an out before Nick Dugan came in for 3 2/3 innings.

Efrain Manzo had three hits, including a double, and a home run, with two runs scored and five RBIs. Eamonn Lance added two hits, including a home run, two runs scored, and four RBIs as well.
