Baseball Secures Series With Win Over Pacific With Late Offensive Explosion

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – An offensive eruption gave Santa Clara baseball a 17-2 win over Pacific on Saturday afternoon to take the three-game conference series.

In their final four times at-bat, the Broncos (16-11, 6-6 WCC) scored 16 times with at least three runs coming in each frame. All nine Santa Clara starters registered at least one hit, with the top four in the lineup all having two each.

Efrain Manzo had another big day at the plate, blasting his team-leading eighth and ninth home runs. He also added a walk, hit-by-pitch, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Malcolm Williams had a four-hit day with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored. Robert Hipwell had two hits, including a grand slam and finished with six RBIs and three runs scored.

Jared Feikes (1-1) was sold in a 5-inning start to collect the win. He surrendered a pair of runs on three hits with a walk and five strikeouts. August Souza got his second save of the year by throwing the final 4 innings with four strikeouts.

Marvcus Guarin (0-3) started for Pacific (10-19, 3-9 WCC) and took the loss in 4 2/3 innings. He allowed five runs on six hits with four walks and five strikeouts. The bullpen fared worse, giving up 12 runs over the final 4 1/3 innings, though two were unearned.

The offense consisted of single runs in the third and fifth innings, both knocked in by Ben Nemivant who was a home run shy of the cycle.
