Baseball Takes Game Two at Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball beat Pepperdine for the second consecutive day, this time by a final of 7-4.

The Broncos (22-15, 9-8 WCC) jumped out to a two-run lead early but the Waves (15-24, 7-13 WCC) had a response before Santa Clara scored three unanswered to take the lead for good. Pepperdine got within one in the fourth, where it would stay before some insurance in the ninth made the bottom of the inning a little more comfortable.

Eamonn Lance, recently back from an injury, hit his first two home runs of the year to lead the way on offense. Michael O'Hara and Ben Steck both had three hit days with O'Hara scoring twice and Steck knocking in a run. Robert Hipwell also added two hits and two RBIs.

Nick Sando (2-3) went 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief with two hits, a walk, and two strikeouts to pick up the win. Skylar Hales went the final three innings, allowing a hit and a walk with two strikeouts to collect his third save of the year.

Jack Basseer was 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Waves' offense and Charles Masino scored twice. Jack Goodman added an RBI with Lincoln Orellana and Quintt Landis both scoring a run.

Starter Brandon Llewellyn (2-4) took the loss in 6 innings of work. He gave up five runs, four earned, on 10 hits with a walk and five strikeouts.
