Manzo's Homers Tie Game in Ninth, Win It in 11th

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Efrain Manzo played hero not once, but twice in Santa Clara baseball's 9-7 11 inning win over San Diego on Sunday to clinch the team's fourth consecutive series victory.

Down a run in the bottom of the 11th, Manzo stepped to the plate with runners on the corners and blasted a no-doubter over the left wall to give the Broncos (13-6, 4-2 WCC) their second walkoff win this season.

The game was only in extras because with two down in the bottom of the ninth and no one on, Manzo's solo shot tied the game at 6-all.

Santa Clara was in striking distance in the ninth thanks to brilliant relief work from Skylar Hales who ended up with the win in 5 innings of work. Hales (3-1) allowed a run on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Jared Feikes started and went 4 1/3 while surrendering five runs on five hits with two walks and a strikeout.

Michael O'Hara also had a big day at the plate going 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Dawson Brigman and Coleman Brigman both added two hits with C. Brigman going yard and driving in two. Robert Hipwell also hit a home run and scored two runs.

Drake Frize (2-2) took the loss in 1 1/3 innings of relief. He gave up three runs, two earned, on two hits. A comebacker to Frize in the 11th could have been an game-ending double play but he threw high and didn't record an out, setting up Manzo's second home run of the day.

Offensively, four Toreros (9-12-1, 3-3 WCC) had two-hit games with Austin Smith and Jack Gurevitch both knocking in two runs and Smith and Justin Decriscio scoring twice each.
