Long Ball Powers Baseball Past Gonzaga

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball guaranteed it would be the home team in its first round matchup at the West Coast Conference Tournament with a 12-1 win over Gonzaga Friday night. A third or fourth seed is in play depending on the results of tomorrow's games.

A night after scoring four in the ninth to win in walkoff fashion and clinch its spot in the WCC Tournament, the Broncos (30-18, 16-10 WCC) made things much less stressful. They scored three runs in the first and continued to add on throughout the night, powered by four home runs to set a new single season program record. They now have 64 on the season, breaking the previous mark of 62 set back in 1984.

Efrain Manzo hit two home runs and knocked in three with three runs scored. Michael O'Hara had a home run with five RBIs and two runs scored and Eamonn Lance went deep and had three RBIs. JonJon Berring and Dawson Brigman set the table at the top of the line with Berring collecting three hits with a run scored and Brigman had two hits, a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored.

Jared Feikes (5-1) was fantastic in the start. He tossed 6 three-hit innings with two walks and six strikeouts to pick up the win.

The Bulldogs (18-32, 14-12 WCC) got their lone run in the seventh on an RBI double from Savier Pinales to drive in Dylan Johnson. Tommy Eisenstat added a pair of hits as well.
