Walkoff Home Run Gives Baseball Eighth Win in a Row

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – For the fourth time this season, Santa Clara baseball celebrated a walk off win, topping San Francisco 3-2 in 11 innings on Sunday to guarantee a series victory and set up a potential sweep.

Robert Hipwell played the role of Broncos' (26-15, 12-8 WCC) hero with a game-winning home run in the bottom of the 11th to send the team to its eighth straight win.


Hipwell had a big day at the plate, finishing with three hits and a walk. Michael O'Hara also collected three hits, including a triple, and scored a run with JonJon Berring rounding out a trio of players with three hits. Berring added an RBI and a walk as well.

Skylar Hales (5-4) got the win with 4 1/3 innings of dominant relief. He allowed just three hits while striking out eight.

It was a brilliant start for Cade Pilchard but he still ended up with a no-decision. In 6 2/3 innings Pilchard allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out three, all on 70 pitches. Both runs he allowed came after he was pulled in the seventh.

Weston Lombard (2-3) suffered the loss in 4 1/3 innings of work out of the bullpen for the Dons (16-25, 7-16 WCC). He allowed two runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

San Francisco starter Adam Shew (3-3) gave up eight hits and a walk in his 5 innings of work in but managed to limit Santa Clara to just one run while striking out six. He ended up with a no-decision.

On offense, Will Asby collected two hits with Tyler Martinez knocking in two runs with a single in the seventh for the Dons' only runs.
