Santa Clara Baseball Legend Bob Garibaldi Passes Away

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara Athletics recently lost baseball legend Bob Garibaldi passed away on May 13. A private memorial service was held.

Garibaldi was a key member of the Broncos 1962 team that made it to extra innings in the final of the College World Series. He was named Most Outstanding Player of the tournament (the first Bronco to win the award) and was a Second Team All-America selection. Over 60 years later, he still holds the College World Series records for innings pitched (27.2) and strikeouts (38).

A native of Stockton, Calif., Garibaldi led the Broncos that year in wins (10), innings pitched (125.2), and strikeouts (168). He set a record for best career ERA at 1.86. After his Bronco career, he was signed by the San Francisco Giants in 1962 and retired from professional baseball in 1972. He was inducted into the Santa Clara Athletic Hall of Fame in 1979.
