Baseball Falls Saturday at Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – Santa Clara baseball was beaten 8-4 on Saturday afternoon at Portland.

The Broncos (27-18, 13-10 WCC) found themselves on top 3-0 after the top of the fourth, but the Pilots (26-19, 15-8 WCC) would come back with eight unanswered runs over their final five times at bat. Santa Clara got a run back in the top of the ninth.

Portland got two-hit days from Ben Patacsil, Nich Klemp, and Christian Cooney. Patacsil had two RBIs and a run scored with Evan Scavotto scoring twice and hitting a home run and Zach Toglia adding two RBIs.

Starter Joey Gartrell (5-4) got the win in 7 innings. He gave up three runs, one earned, on eight hits with four strikeouts. Peter Allegro got his second save by tossing the final 2 innings.

Coleman Brigman had a three hit day that included a double to lead the Broncos offense. Michael O'Hara had two hits with a run scored and an RBI and Thomas Ferroggiaro also added two hits and an RBI.

Cade Pilchard (3-1) lasts 4 1/3 innings in the start and took the loss. He allowed four runs, two earned, on four hits with five strikeouts.
