Baseball Beats Pacific on Friday Night

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball took game two of its series with Pacific 4-2 on Friday night from Schott Stadium.

After the Broncos (15-11, 5-6 WCC) took a 1-0 lead in the third, the Tigers (10-18, 3-8 WCC) got a two-run home run in the top of the fifth to briefly take the lead. Santa Clara would get the two runs right back in the bottom of the frame and add an insurance run in the eighth.

Nick Sando (1-1) had an efficient night on the mound pitching to contact to collect the win. He tossed 7 innings on just 71 pitches while allowing two runs on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Skylar Hales went the final 2 innings for the save, his second on the year.

On offense, Robert Hipwell had a two-hit game, including a double, and added an RBI and a run scored. Five different Broncos had doubles, including Michael O'Hara who scored twice and knocked in a run. Efrain Manzo also had an RBI.

Pacific starter Grant Stevens (3-4) ended up going 6 2/3 innings while allowing three runs on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts and got the loss.

Chaz Myers had a pair of hits for Pacific and scored a run while Jacob Weiss accounted for the runs with a homer.
