SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball announced on Wednesday the signings of seven players to national letters of intent for the 2022 recruiting class.
The class includes six talented pitchers – Ryan Ellis (San Diego, Calif.), Chris Gaudio (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Brandon Gomez (Winters, Calif.), Bryce Padilla (Fresno, Calif.), Jace Root (Robinson, Ill.), Caden Wooster (Oakland, Calif.) and a versatile infield prospect Caden Thompson (Roseville, Calif.).
"Our recruiting coordinator Jon Karcich and assistant coach Jay Brossman have worked tirelessly to find and evaluate the best talent in the country," said Broncos head coach Rusty Filter. "They have done an incredible job in identifying the needs of the program and finding the right pieces to fit within our team.
"This year's recruiting class is highlighted by the addition of six pitchers that should have an immediate impact at Santa Clara. Of the six pitchers four are right handed and the remaining two are left handed with four coming from high school and two from the junior college ranks. We've also brought in a high school position player in Caden Thompson who should find success quickly at Santa Clara."
Ryan Ellis out of Patrick Henry High School in San Diego is a 6-foot-5 right-handed pitcher who posted a 1.88 ERA and struck out 75 batters over 59 2/3 innings during his junior campaign with the Patriots.
Chris Gaudio, a 6-foot-4 right-handed pitcher from Notre Dame Preparatory in Scottsdale, Arizona helped lead the Saints to the quarterfinals in the 4A State playoffs last spring while posting an impressive 5-to-1 strikeout to walk ratio.
Brandon Gomez from Winters, California is a six-foot, left-handed pitching prospect from Sierra College in Rocklin.
Bryce Padilla hails from San Joaquin Memorial High School in Fresno, California. The 5-foot-11 right-handed pitcher was twice named preseason underclass All-American by Perfect Game.
Jace Root is a left-handed pitcher who played San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, California. Root is originally out of Robinson, Illinois.
Caden Thompson is a right-handed hitting infielder from Woodcreek High in Roseville, California. He hit a blistering .500 in 24 games for the Timberwolf last season with an eye popping .608 on-base percentage.
Caden Wooster is a towering right-handed pitcher standing at 6-foot-8. Wooster is a local product out of Bishop O'Dowd High in Oakland who was thrice named Baseball Factory preseason All-American.
Beginning the week of November 15, the Broncos will highlight one signee per week. The first of those signees is Ryan Ellis.
