Baseball Tops UC San Diego Seal Series Win

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball won for the fifth time in its last six games with a 6-2 win over UC San Diego on Saturday afternoon to secure a series win and set-up a chance and a series sweep tomorrow.

It was a pitcher's duel until the sixth when the Broncos (6-4) bats woke up and put three on the board. After the Tritons (6-6) came back with one in the seventh, Santa Clara added two more in their half of the inning to get out on top 6-1.

Dawson Brigman had a big day at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Eamonn Lance also added two hits and two walks with a pair of runs scored and an RBI with Coleman Brigman and Alex Lambeau both adding RBIs. A total of five Broncos had multi-hit games.

Skylar Hales (1-1) made the start for Santa Clara and opened the game by striking out the first six batters he faced and retiring the first nine. In the end, he went 6 2/3 innings, allowing a run on five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts to get the win.

Down 1-0, UC San Diego loaded the bases with one out in the sixth and looked prime to take the lead but Hales escaped the jam unscathed and allowed his offense to come back with its three-run sixth.

Michael Fuhrman and Crew Robinson both collected two hits with Fuhrman adding a double and Robinson knocking in a run.

Noah Conlon (1-2) took the loss in 5 innings. He allowed three runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
