Baseball Posts Gritty Extra Innings Win at Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. – In a back-and-forth affair, Santa Clara baseball won its rubber match at Pacific 9-6 in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon.

Twice in the first seven innings the Broncos (17-10, 6-3 WCC) took a lead only to see the Tigers (9-17, 1-8 WCC) come back and get on top in their half of the inning. After Santa Clara tied the game in the eighth and it went to extras, the offense put up a four-spot to hold off a Pacific comeback.

In the 10th, Connor Henriques came up with the go ahead hit after Alex Lambeau and JonJon Berring had worked one out walks. Not content with just one, Coleman Brigman capped his monster day at the plate with a two-run triple and John Hanley followed with an RBI double.

C. Brigman finished the day 4-for-6 with two doubles, two triples, a run scored, and four RBIs. Berring took three walks and scored four times as well.

Skylar Hales started and took a no-decision. In 6 innings, he allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts. Alex Reelfs (3-3) ended up with the win in 1 2/3 innings out of the bullpen.

After falling behind 1-0 in the third, Pacific responded with a three-spot in the bottom of the frame. Santa Clara tied things in the fifth and retook the lead in the seventh with a run but again, the Tigers responded, this time with two to get up 5-4. They didn't go quietly in the 10th either, getting a two out home run to keep hope alive.

Jarron Silva went 2-for-5 with a double, a walk, a run scored, and three RBIs with Brandon Motheral hitting the home run and knocking in two.

Michael Defelippi (1-1) took the loss. He faced three batters, surrendering three runs on a hit with two walks, without recording an out. Starter Zach Patterson was solid in 6 innings. He allowed three runs on six hits with a walk and six strikeouts.
