Offense Leads Baseball to Win at Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball stayed hot and won a slugfest 9-6 over Cal to move its winning streak to six.

The runs came early in this one with the Broncos (8-4) scoring two in the first and adding four more in the second after the Bears (6-6) put up four in the bottom of the first. Things were tied at 6-all through three innings but the Broncos scored again in the fourth to take the lead for good and added an insurance run in the sixth.

The second saw Dawson Brigman lead off with a single and come around to score when Cal Christofori tripled. A ground by Alex Lambeau tied things up and with two down, Michael O'Hara's infield single kept the inning alive for Coleman Brigman who blasted a two-run shot to left.

Eamonn Lance had a big day at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. He had what turned out the be the game-winning hit in the fourth, a two-out two-run double. C. Brigman added two hits and three runs scored with Michael O'Hara and Cal Christofori both having multi-hit games as well.

The pitching wasn't as sharp as starter Drake Davis didn't record an out while allowing three runs with three walks. The third pitcher of the game, Cade Connolly (1-0) brought some calm with him and got the win in 2 1/3 innings while not allowing a run. He allowed three hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Cole Kitchen got his first save of the year by tossing the final 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts.

Keshawn Ogans led the Cal offense with three hits, two RBIs, and a run scored. Cole Elvis added two hits and the top four batters in the lineup reached nine times total with Hance Smith adding an RBI and Nathan Matorella knocking in two.

Sam Stoutenbo (0-1) took the loss, going 3 innings in the start. He allowed six runs, five earned, on eight hits with four strikeouts.
