SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball announced the first member of the 2022 recruiting class, Ryan Ellis. The Patrick Henry High School product from San Diego is a right-handed pitcher who was named 2021 Perfect Game Preseason Underclass California Region Honorable Mention.
"I chose Santa Clara because I knew it would be the best school where I could develop," said Ellis. "The academics are top notch. The baseball program is surrounded with great coaches and facilities. Once I saw the campus in person, I knew it was home."
The 6-foot-5 Ellis posted a 1.88 ERA and struck out 75 batters over 59 2/3 innings during his junior campaign with the Patriots where he was named the MVP of the Eastern League.
The First Team Eastern League selection held opponents to a .196 batting average in 12 appearances including seven starts.
"Ryan is a competitor. His demeanor on the diamond will allow him to compete right away on the mound," said Broncos head coach Rusty Filter. "Ryan has a nasty curveball which is something we're very excited to see at Stephen Schott Stadium next season. We know he's getting developed coming from two great programs in Patrick Henry High and San Diego Show."
Our next future Bronco, Chris Gaudio, will be announced the week of November 22.
