Baseball Posts Impressive Win Over Cal Poly

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball avenged an early season loss with an impressive 9-1 victory over Cal Poly on Tuesday night.

Early offense and a tremendous effort from Alex Reelfs proved more than enough for the Broncos (22-17) who took the lead for good four batters into the game.

In a scheduled bullpen game, Reelfs (4-5) came in after a scoreless inning from starter Nick Sando and ended up tossing 7-plus innings while getting the win. He shutout the Mustangs (24-16) for 6 innings before his defense let him down in the eighth. In all, Reelfs allowed an unearned run on six hits with six strikeouts.

It was a barrage of doubles early on with Santa Clara smacking four over the first two innings en route to a two-run first and a three-run second.

Dawson Brigman returned to the starting lineup for the first time since April 7 due to injury and led the way with a perfect at 3-for-3 with a walk, a double, two RBIs, and three runs scored. Matt Jew had a pair of doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI and Cal Christofori also had two hits with a double and an RBI.

Noah Larkin (2-3) ended up with the loss for Cal Poly in the start. In 1 inning he allowed two runs on four hits with a strikeout. In all, the Mustangs used eight pitchers that walked nine batters.

Ryan Stafford and Tate Samuelson both added a pair of hits with Collin Villegas collecting the lone RBI by knocking in Samuelson.
