Long Ball Helps Baseball Beat San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO – Three home runs highlighted Santa Clara baseball's 8-1 win over San Francisco Saturday afternoon from the Hilltop.

The Broncos (11-6, 2-0 WCC) got solo shots from Coleman Brigman, John Hanley, and Alex Lambeau to continue to add on after taking the lead for good in the first with three runs.

The starting pitching was even better than the bats, with Jared Feikes (3-3) tossing 7 2/3 one-run innings. He surrendered just five hits with a walk and six strikeouts to collect the win.

An error by the Dons (11-10, 0-2 WCC) in the first helped Santa Clara to its three runs and the Broncos would add single runs in the second, third, fourth, sixth, and seventh innings to make sure San Francisco couldn't make a comeback.

C. Brigman finished the day with two hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs, as did Hanley. Michael Mugan added a double and two RBIs as well.

The Dons used back-to-back doubles to lead off the home half of the first for a run but it was the only damage they could muster off of Feikes.

They managed to a couple of runs in the ninth off the bullpen but the tying run never made it to the on-deck circle.

Luke Keaschall had two hits and scored a run with Mario Demera knocking him in with a double of his own. Brandon Greim added a two-run double in the ninth as well.

Weston Lombard (2-2) started but lasted just 2 innings and took the loss. He allowed five runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
