SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball announced the 10th member of the 2022 recruiting class, Johnny Luetzow, a versatile right-handed hitting and throwing player from San Diego.

"I chose Santa Clara because I feel like it is the perfect fit for me in every way," said Luetzow.  "It has always been a dream of mine to play Division I baseball in California and to go to a great academic school, and Santa Clara is the perfect combination of both. I love how close and supportive the SCU baseball team and community is and can't wait to be a part of the Bronco family."

The six-foot, 180 pound Luetzow played in the infield and behind the dish at La Jolla Country Day School where he was named Coastal League Player of the Year last spring posting a slash line of .308/.411/.692 with eight home runs and 24 RBIs.

Having played on the varsity team since his freshman year, Luetzow has hit for a .322 batting average with a .424 on-base percentage over 60 career games.

"Johnny is a gamer.  His versatility is a separator as he can play anywhere on the field and hit anywhere in the lineup," said Broncos head coach Rusty Filter.  "He will come in and compete for a starting job right away. He's been the team captain at a great high school program in La Jolla Country Day and a part of a talented BPA program so we know he'll be ready."

Luetzow has been on the Honor Roll three years running and earned the AP Scholar Award in 2021.

Our next future Bronco, Henry Stewart, will be announced the week of January 24.
